The Players and Umpires made their way to the middle for one last time in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2. It was all about dealing with the pressure and Chepauk came out on top beating the Tuti Patriots by 6 wickets with one over to spare at the famous MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai where people have various fond memories, and another one got added as Chepauk lifted the trophy.

Dinesh Karthik won the toss and decided to bat first. Sai Kishore for the first time was opening the bowling for the Gillies. R Sathish’s brilliance came to an effect by removing the leading run scorer Washington Sundar who tried to heave the ball through the mid on area but found Sai Kishore’s safe pair of hands. There was 42 minutes interruption due to the rain which hit very hard. Kaushik Gandhi departed for 24 before edging the ball to S Karthik. Abhinav Mukund played run a ball innings and scored 41 runs. Arun Kumar picked up yet an another crucial wicket. This time it was Dinesh Karthik giving catch practice to Thalaivan Sargunam. Sai Kishore picked up back-to-back wickets and the pressure was piling on Tuti Patriots. Ganesh Moorthi and Aushik Srinivas added 14 runs to post a respectable total of 143 in the 20 Overs.

Chepauk openers KH Gopinath and Thalaivan Sargunam made a steady start by scoring 41 runs in the powerplay. Pressure got the better of Thalaivan Sargunam who got out for 16 of 31 balls. On the other side of the pitch, Gopinath scored a much needed half century of 38 balls. S Karthik tried to clear the mid wicket fielder but failed to do so. He scored run a ball 16. New man Antony Dhas added 4 runs. Just when the match was swifting gears, Rajagopal Sathish and S Vasanth Saravanan came to Chepauk’s rescue by partnering 51 runs for the 4th wicket. They both scored 4 maximums and 1 four to bring absolute joy to the Chepauk faithful.

After stuttering defeats against Tuti Patriots in the league stage, Chepauk as a whole will have dreams and song to sing. Yes, We are the CHAMPIONS!
